You are invited to join Bicycle, Map, Spoon, an art project that takes the form of a bicycle tour of the environs of Utrecht. Participants will bicycle in small groups following maps that suggest the complex history of the city and region, attending to the city’s origins, urban development and history of migrations. Expect a playful combination of unusual tourism and many other “tastes.”
Meet at noon on Wednesday, 25 May
at the bike shop Fietspunt B.V. on Nobelstraat 293.
Hire a bike there or bring your own. We will ride, rain or shine!
Bicycle, Map, Spoon is a project of Spatula & Barcode, a collaborative team (Laurie Beth Clark and Michael Peterson) dedicated to creating art out of social experience and the power of place. Bicycle, Map, Spoon is facilitated by cooperation from the Community Arts Lab Utrecht.
This work is produced in conjunction with the 17th Performance Studies international conference, which has the theme “Camillo 2.0: Technology, Memory, Experience.” As a performance link between PSi17 and its place, Bicycle, Map, Spoon suggests that a possible alternative model for a theatre of memory might be to bicycle, according to a hand-drawn map, en route to a surprising bowl of soup.
